Release Notes: November 27, 2023
Buckle up, everyone, 🏁 because we have some racy CMS enhancements coming your way on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Minimal downtime is expected so all lanes 🚗 will be open.
You'll be able to upload WebP images in the Images module, easily put your site into and out of maintenance mode, and we're renaming the Tags module to Scripts to help alleviate confusion.
Let's dive deeper 🤿 to understand the value each enhancement will deliver.
Next-Level Websites: Meet WebP Images
WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression as well as animation and alpha transparency for images on the web.
Wait a minute, what does all that jargon actually mean, you ask. (Thanks for asking!)
Simply put, due to WebP images' improved compression, when you use them on your site, you can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster. Who wouldn't want a better picture quality without a huge image size and accompanying load time?
To use WebP images, just head over to the Images module and select the Upload button. In the Upload image(s) view, you'll see that WebP is listed as an allowed file extension. Follow the steps you'd follow to upload any other type of image. Who knew it's that easy to make the web faster? 🤷
New Maintenance Mode, Just in Case
Your website's your priority for non-stop performance, but just like a pit stop for a race car 🏎️, sometimes a quick visit to maintenance mode keeps it revving at its best and ready to zoom back into action! To facilitate this, you'll be able to zip over to Settings > Application Settings and flip the maintenance mode toggle to On.
While in maintenance mode, your website visitors will see this:
Scripts, the Module Formerly Known as Tags
Somehow, the module where you manage scripts was confusingly called Tags. 🤣 Maybe we just wanted to see if you were paying attention❓ Anyway, no one's perfect, and now that we've seen the mismatch, we're renaming the module to Scripts.
