The inclusion of alt text (captions) on images serves a critical role in website accessibility, search engine optimization (SEO), and overall user experience by conveying the meaning and context of images.
For websites catering to multilingual audiences, translating alt text is important to maintain the aforementioned benefits across languages.
For information on uploading images to the CMS, see how to add images to the CMS.
Adding Translated Image Captions
- Within the CMS Dashboard, select the desired site language from the site language drop down.
- From the Dashboard, navigate to the Images module. The image pool will display images that have already been uploaded.
- Select the image from the image pool.
- The Edit Image screen will appear, providing comprehensive information about the image and its usage, along with the ability to make updates.
- Enter the translated alt text in the Caption field, and select Save.
Note
The AI captioning feature (Caption with AI) is currently limited to generating captions in English.
If a caption is not defined for a particular language, the English caption will automatically be displayed by default.
