Defining link behavior, specifically opening links in new tabs, offers a range of benefits. For users, it prevents accidental navigation away from the page they're on, eases context switching between your site and external content, and accommodates specific content types.
Note
External links (links beginning with http, https) default to opening in a new tab. Internal links (/page) open within the same tab.
